If You're Out and About in Sydney this Weekend...

October 2nd 2008 04:53
Because I'm feeling social (there must be a full moon out), I've decided to post a range of activities my fellow members of Generation Penultimate Letter of the Alphabet may wish to revel in.

Firstly, Oktoberfest.

My information receptors tell me Oktoberfest began in October of 1810 when Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen held a great horse race in honour of their marriage. The history lesson over, we can move on to locations where Sydney-siders can celebrate this anniversary by getting plastered. The German-Austrian Society will once again be hosting the long weekend festivities at Smithfield Showground, Smithfield Rd. Prairiewood. Adult tickets are $12 dollars, children and pensioners will be slugged with can expect to pay a $12 entry fee and anyone under twelve doesn't count as a person so they get in free. Should you go on Sunday, stick around until 7pm for the fireworks.

If Germany doesn't do it for you, maybe something with a Latin feel is more up your ally.

Also to be held this long weekend is the Darling harbour Latin American Festival. As suggested, it will be at Darling Harbour between 3-6 October from 6:30pm on all three days. Yes pm, it's an evening thing. Fireworks will be at 8pm so if you're in the mood for some Spanish cuisine, feel like busting a move or even practising your Spanish, get yourself on a train or bus (trying to find parking in the city is like searching for the Holy Grail) and make your way to the Heart of Sydney.

If you're not in the mood for a cultural activity, may I suggest treasure hunting?

The first Saturday of every month is Surry Hills market day and this coming Saturday is no exception. The market is located at the corner of Crown and Collins Sts, Surry Hills, in Shannon Reserve. It is of course free to attend and has no set starting time but will be packed up by 4pm. I suggest arriving at midday when everything will be in full swing. If you'd like more info for attending for even setting up your own stall, please visit the official site for the markets.

This weekend I shall be ploughing my way through an assignment or two (goodie) but I wish you all a pleasant and activity-filled weekend.

Much love,
Wynona
