The quest for international music
August 22nd 2007 02:41
“So have you been to any concerts?”
“Me? Oh, a few. How ‘bout you”
“You know how I don’t like bands, I like songs?”
“Yeah… oh, I get it” *sheepish smile*
“Anyway, I’m more into the stuff that would be played at a rave, but the bands I like wouldn’t come here”
No, you haven’t stumbled onto an MSN conversation transcript, this is my recollection of a music conversation I had with a uni mate. It turns out she and I are suffering form the same auditory affliction- we like bands we have little access to.
With my strange interest in Finnish and Swedish bands, I thought I was alone in my deprivation of certain musical experiences. Not so according to my new-found uni mate. It turns out that among the artists not making their way to Australian shores any time soon you can add, Leatherstrip, Uniklubi and Hardcore Superstar, so it seems my new-found mate and I will have to continue to make do with the musical scraps the internet provides us.
Now, a lot of you may be reading this thinking
What is this you-nee-club-ee and so what if it doesn’t moor itself on our shores? We have Gwen Stefani and Justin Timberlake to look forward to!
Well dear reader, I must disagree with you- you have Gwen Stafani and Justin Timberlake to look forward to. I, a fan of Uniklubi, (pronounced oo-ni-cloo-bi) must make do with scouring youtube <www.youtube.com> for their latest musical offerings.
And why youtube, why not scoot my darling self over to itunes<www.itunes.com> like any normal teenager and download their musical genius? Sadly, in a case of Not Happy Jan, the dear boys of Uniklubi have made their music available for download in Finland only. So while the general public fans itself at the thought of Mr. Timberlake bringing sexy back, I and a few persons like me, will be bracing ourselves at the thought of learning new languages and venturing to new lands in search of the elusive Uniklubi.
Wnat more?
