Regrets

What a lovely topic for my first post of 2008- what do we feel sorry for, how spectacular!
Surprisingly, I found that all the respondents in the research for this post had serious things to feel sorry for rather than these little trivial matters that seem to plague our lives. It seems our peers are not sorry that they wore those orange shoes but they are sorry they made a permanent decision that is still screwing with their lives. No wonder we listen to angst-ridden music.
Unsurprisingly a fair few Gen Yers had regrets in regards their alcohol consumption. Some wished they hadn't drunk quite as much because had they been sober, they never would have done (insert anything here). Honestly, the things people get up to when plastered is really bizarre, particularly to a non-drinker such as me. Others began to wish they hadn't had so much to drink only when they woke up the next morning to find their head felt like it was being spliced open by a person that wasn't quite strong enough to get the job done in one take and was making repeated attempts. If the actual consumption of alcohol wasn't on the 'Things I feel Sorry for' the payments for such legal drugs was. Turns out getting intoxicated is quite an exercise in disposing of income... no retirement plan for you I guess.
But steering away from the drunkenness that induced feelings of remorse, we come to the world of relationships and how we wish we'd been more open. Oh yes, we wish we'd said what we meant. We should have said no rather than just going along for the ride. We wouldn't be in this mess if we'd just told the truth etc. The list goes on, but basically we don't seem to be terribly good with verbal communication and after having some time to think about it we usually decide what we said was not enough, or not good enough. Ah well, live and learn.
Looks like we're a sorry bunch and that we need to learn from our mistakes. I mean, if we learn from them, then we weren't total disasters... in theory.

The part I don't understand is why they still go get drunk every weekend.

I mean, it's a little sad if you think you're a better person when you drink... but we've all got inhibitions...

They piss me off so bad.
I mean I get really angry at drunk people.
Especially when I'm sober.
But I don't like drinking so...I'm pretty much always sober.
So drunks pretty much always piss me off.

Similarly, should you get punched in the mouth for speaking, you might want to reconsider who you're hanging out with-or start packing a pistol and just shoot anyone annoying, boring or stupid.
That's what life is, a learning process, where you discover 999 ways how not to do something right once, but turns that 1,000th effort that is right into a treasure.
