Who's got a favourtie movie genre?
September 18th 2007 10:47
From the depths of my vast but largely empty mind, I've pulled out the idea of blogging about the movie genres we watch and what draws us to them.
First up we have the animated children's movie type genre thing that's proving quite a success in the teen girl market as well. The last one of these concoctions that I laid eyes on was Robots[I] and I found it half decent. I guess the happiness and colour that appeals to the younger kids appeals to the older ones too. Don't worry, life will soon kick in and they'll all be wondering 'round with about as much enthusiasm as the living dead- it'll all be back to normal soon.
So next up on my list of movie categories it looks like I've scribbled 'comedy'. Okay, so what about this type of movie designed to get us laughing do we give thumbs up to? Well, in the last... say.... ten years, we've been drifting from stories with a plot and some slap stick and more into spoofs and innuendo. Good, bad, it's all up to you really, I just wanted to draw attention to the fact that comedy is still popular, it's just that now it's a different kind of comedy.
Horror. Oh yes, hello there, did you think I'd forgotten you? Never. Horror it seems is still kicking and screaming although I'll admit it is more for the sake of it rather than being genuinely frightening. See, people are still seeing horror flicks but it's more of a 'yeah what the Hell' kind of decision rather than wanting to see a truly frightening movie. Oops, I guess our generation will never have a [I]Nosfuratu or The Exorcist. Ah well, everything must have it's season. Actually, even horror is going through a little bit of change- it's gotten way more gory; think of the Saw movies or Wolf Creek. It'll freak you out, but only because people's brains are coming out of their noses.
So if this is what we're into, what's taken a tumble?
They are called thrillers. What the Hell is a thriller? No one has a clue- it's some genre of the early '90's that doesn't get to the point of blood and guts flying everywhere and there are no puns or crude humour. Definitely not something the movie goers of today will be sitting through. My condolences if you are in the middle of filming one.

Animated movies...great, and helps *wake-up* the child in us.
Comedy...it's a hit-and-miss I feel 'cos most times they end up being too slap-stick -- can't tolerate it!

I don't have a fav, but I would have to say that if I did, it would be a toss-up between All those films based on true stories (like Backdraft, Ladder 49, United 93, Catch me If You Can, The Terminal etc) ... and romping action (especially within good quality science fiction)...Like the Lara Croft movies, National Treasure, Indiana Jones, Batman Begins, MIB...etc If it has comedy thrown in... that's a real bonus...
Lilla...
PS Next comes the Kids classics for me too - cartoons and animation - I loved Robots too
