Germany's Young Muslim Radicals
November 10th 2008 01:55
Okay yes, I admit it; the title of this post is alarmist and designed to get my hit count up. But seeing as you're here now, you may as well stick around for the rest of the blog.
Germany has 3.2 million Muslim citizens- the second highest quantity in Europe. Most of these people I will argue, are decent human beings that want to live a good life side by side with all their neighbours. Unfortunately, as always, there is a minority that lead disruptive lives and it is this lot that are over-represented in the media and tar their fellow Muslims with their filthy brush.
These radical non-conformists are being increasingly recruited at younger ages, as ’a parallel Muslim universe’ seems to be in the works, with Islamic schools cropping up and focusing almost exclusively in questionable Islamic teachings. My specific example that I've linked to above talks about one such boarding school which was found to be 'almost exclusively devoted to Islamic teaching and practice of the faith' and pupils were '"indoctrinated" into a "rigidly sharia-oriented" form of Islam and "immunized" against Christianity, the West and the German constitution.' That dear readers was an exact quote, although I admit it certainly doesn’t seem like it, I am not trying to preach against Islam, I'm just running a bit low on topics and I know how you all love scandal and sensationalism so I've decided to give this minority a disproportionate among of attention.
However, I stand by my labelling of them as 'radicals'.
Again, I am not lumping everyone together, I am merely referring to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's statement to Turkish Muslims in Germany that "Assimilation is a crime against humanity." No, I'm not making this up. He says they should learn German, but posters for his rally in Germany was written in Turkish only. Hmmm.
I wonder, if this is what (supposedly) more and younger Muslims are exposed to, are these radicals going to out number the peaceful majority?
I'd truly like some input from someone in the know here. Are you Turkish? Do you live in Germany? Anyone with some facts is encouraged to comment this entry and provide us all (myself included) with some primary information on the matter.
