Generation DIY: Published Authors
October 21st 2008 23:05
Today I begin a special series of reports that look at members of Generation Y who have taken their lives into their own hands. Rather than waiting for someone else to help them realise their goals, they've made things happen for themselves.
The debut feature of Generation DIY is a young published poet named Faye Sari whose debut collection of poems is entitled What Happens Tomorrow: Emotions Through Time and is available through www.lulu.com.
Sari has been writing since she was in Year 9- a step she was told to take as a coping method for some of the more unpleasant experiences life had given her. Sari embraced this idea, reasoning that "without writing your thoughts and emotions - it will be more difficult, having to live with the drama you experience in life. It's more inspirational when you actually become well aware of the past and realize what you experience in life - with your past, will definitely allow you to become stronger".
As Sari took charge of her life, she too took charge of the publishing process. Being a member of Generation Y, she headed online and typed 'publishers' into a search engine- so began her collaboration with Lulu publishers to openly produce copies of her therapeutic writings.
Of course being a Generation Y member, she embraced the importance of graphics when marketing a product and friends when needing a hand; each poem is accompanied by photography by Danielle Kiemel that captures the tone of each written expression.
This is the first collection of poems from Sari, but as the quote on the inside cover says, "There is always another story to tell'. An enduring quote that can be applied to both life and passion and an example of the mindset of Generation Y's most tenacious.
