Metalheads, where for art thou?
November 22nd 2007 00:30
The 80's were ruled by metal- that is so totally undeniable. There was Anthrax of the musical variety, Guns N Roses and the grandfathers of metal, Metallica. However, with so much metal awesomeness just floating around out there I guess people were looking for a change because metal's popularity shifted from mainstream to alternative where it seems to still be languishing. Now, certainly metal fans still exist, but they're not out in full force as they once were and quite often their musical taste means they need to know where a good import store in located. Live in Reykjavik my butt, and you'll have to fly about as far if you want to see them live. Who is 'them', take your pick.
However, what has baffled me is the mainstream popularity of Linkin Park. These guys are metal...ish but they've been big since their debut single "One Step closer" so does this mean the masses are now tiring of rap etc. and once again on the hunt for something different? It seems we're heading that way because we've just crashed into a fair bit of psuedo-emo in the form of My Chemical Romance and Fallout Boy. My prediction is that people will look for something heavier and once again, the phenomenon that is metal will sweep the world. Highg hopes ladies and gentlemen, high hopes.
But what of the metal heads among us, what bands do they think will be the future of metal? Well we'll get to that in a minute, but right now I want to plug the band that I think will be the future of metal, namely Trivium. These boys out of Florida are on their 3rd album entitled The Crusade and a signed to metal and hard rock powerhouseRoadrunner Records. The vocals range from unearthly growls to unifying war cries and the guitars go from solo to duels superbly. Keep your ears open or some bass guitar solos while you're at it and be inspired by the drumming machine that is Travis.
But enough shameless publicity from me, there are others to consider.
Follow me into the land of metal and be enthralled by the likes of France's Gojira and while you're at it, stop over in Finland for some metal education from [Children]Really Long Link of Bodom[/LINK]
Yes, certainly I could rabbit on about how sensational these bands are but I think I shall leave it to you dear readers to make up your own mind (and do you own research).
