School life's crowning glory

If you read that title and didn't automatically think of the formal/ prom/ senior dance, I wonder what you were thinking of as you clicked the link... leave me a comment and tell me.
Anyway, for the rest of you that came here to read about people getting all frocked up and going to McDonalds or the variety of factors that render a venue useless for the purpose of celebrating high school's completion, I've got just the blog entry for you- this one!
Let's start with why some venues simply cannot host this night of nights.
Well, if it's a farm the rest of the time, the patrons may be a little put off by the smell, and even if there is no smell, a farm does not immediately come to mind when planning one's ultimate place to give high school the finger in style. So, if you are looking at holding your formal in a place that usually houses animals I suggest you think again.
Venues should have an adequate dance floor not only in terms of size, but also in terms of material used for the actual dance floor. See, if there are going to be a bunch of girls in heels and dresses present (for some reason there are always a few at formal dances) they will take issue with being expected to boogie on cobble stones. I repeat, they will take issue with being expected to boogie on cobble stones, and what happens after? They whine. They complain. They pout... and they're vocal chords are unnervingly high strung. Do not book a venue with a lumpy dance floor.
Also do not book a venue whose measurements bear striking resemblance to those of an elevator. If you think partying in an elevator will be a laugh, I think you may have a screw loose. Firstly, this gives more randoms the chance to grope you. Secondly, everyone goes considerably overboard with the perfume/ cologne/ deodorant and elevators are not known for their ventilation. Thirdly, women are not amused by a promise of dancing space but a failure in delivery and they like to display this lack of amusement by using their heels as impromptu torture devices. Don't believe me? Okay, you can find out if I'm lying about that last one for yourselves.
Now certainly there is much more to be discussed about venues, but seeing as I am not getting paid to do that, I won't. Up yours society. Instead I'm going to move on to the outfits of the evening in question and I'll begin by stressing that comfortable shoes are mandatory.
Let’s say you expect a taxi to take you to the venue but it doesn't show up and you need to walk to the bus station- you're going to need some comfortable walking shoes. Now let's say that afterwards you're feeling a little peckish and spot a 24 hour McDonalds- on the other side of town (this is assuming your venue is at a vantage point) well you'd better be wearingtrainers comfortable walking shoes.
But what about the dress or the tuxedo or the bag, the nails, the hair extensions? Start saving now. Actually, start a year ago, start before you’re even born. Yes, you have a budget, but there's this dress you have to have (never mind that you're never going to wear it again) and so-and-so got her nails done and so on. Trust me, you want money in the bank for this one.
