You've Got The Job... Too Bad You Don't Really Want It.

October 15th 2008 00:52
Because I have nothing better to do, I've been paying attention to you; have you noticed that you change jobs more often than you change your socks?

No seriously, if you've been in a job for a month you have to crack open the champagne and celebrate because for you that's a Diamond Anniversary. And then you freak out and leave because you've never held down a job for any longer- and today is not a day for change!

So, because I've been reading a bunch of psychology books, I've decided to pretend I'm halfway competent in said field and I'm going to ask 'why'? Why can't you stand to be in the same job any longer?

Well quite simply it's because you don't like the work. You work because you need money so you can go boozing on the weekends have financial security but that doesn't mean you enjoy earning it. When you see a 'position vacant' sign in another window, you mistake it for 'salvation is here' because you just can't tolerate your job for another second. You rush across the road and apply for some position you may have never even heard of before just because you think there’s nothing more dull or mind-numbing than the work your currently do. Pity this assumption is massively wrong and in month’s time you're darting down the street again looking for salvation once more.

May I suggest boozing little harder on the weekends so that you don't have any recollection of the job you must attend come Monday? Or, from a more liver-conscious point of view, perhaps you could think of what you'll do with the money when earning it gets a little trying.

You know, I think this blog just might be your salvation.

it seems ridiculous to let the focus of your life be a job that you hate - just so you can go off the deep end in booze on the weekends!

I understand your need for financial security, ( the typo is noted ), and, generations aside, I can relate entirely to what you're saying, I really can't stand the boredom, but I generally managed to stick it out for longer than a month.

Self employment is the way to go, but that is beset with problems too and those you can't get away from too easily.

I've never been happier than when I was doing my own thing, be it that the pendulum of success would swing wildly on my roller coaster ride ( bit of imagery tautology there ).

I'm still doing my own thing, but have had a few setbacks lately, more's the pity, and I do have financial independence of a sort, but want to spend many more years on the roller coaster.

I can't help thinking, as my mother used to say, "the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away", strange reality of life, but I often wonder how the 'filthy rich ' manage to escape that one.

Your post made me chuckle, seeing you running across the road to apply for what turns out to be more of the same thing, I could see shades of myself there.

Good luck with finding a new niche, one in which you'll be happy to stay.

Indeed Cibbuano , that money could also be spent on clothes But I see your point, life has much more to offer than work and intoxication.

Hello Kleonaptra, as you know, the generations have no set limits so you're very welcome to join us. 20 you say? I' accept your challenge

Thanks for the well wishes katyzzz. Enjoy your rollercoaster ride, and I hope there are no more set backs in your foreseable future.

You always get the jobs you don't want. It's much tougher getting the ones that you do want. I think it's probably because you are never nervous at interviews for these ones.

I am with Katyzzz - self employment is the answer. I mostly work from home as a freelancer. I may not have a guaranteed income, but I sure don't get bored! One day I may be writing blogs and articles, the next doing some artwork or clipping photos, the next editing a poetry anthology - you just never know!!

It does certainly sound like you never get bored. I've considered full-on self employment before, but seeing as you lovlies recommend it so, I'll have to look into it a little bit more.
