Computers squish us into virtual elevators

September 27th 2007 09:53
If I were to ask you what you think the majority of people use the internet for, I suspect the vast majority of you would say porn. Yes you would, don't lie to me. Oh alright fine, revel in your denial. lol

To find out if this is true, I ventured into some of cyberspace's more remote realms and sought to inquire about this matter. Sadly the avatars I met were less then friendly and refused to confide in me... at least initially. But fear not my dear readers, for in vino veritas*, so after this little cookie bought the entities in question a few rounds they were more than happy to tell me all about their uses for a computer.

The overwhelming majority of the now tanked net personalities said they use the computer for net access, messenger services and music playing. There were a few made mention of work and/or school related use and the odd spot of game playing. There was however, no mention of porn, how to make explosive devices or notes on how to kill one's self. And here I was thinking we're an exiting generation.

Pressing on, I wanted to now why these activities were undertaken and you'll never guess the answer. It's just so out there you'll never think of it. Are you ready? Most of today's youth are interested in social networking. I know, it was a revelation to me too but that's it, that's what the average kid is interested. Even if they're playing a game or watching a video online, they end up adding each other as friends on myspace or something. They leave messages and comments for each other and then invite each other to actual real life social functions! Far from being a tool of social isolation, the computer is squishing us all together. Ew get off me, I don't want some random touching me.

So yes... that's kind of it for this blog entry. Think I'm horribly wrong in my conclusion and want to set me straight? Use your index finger and make commenting your choice.
